What is held for each patent
Two records are held. The counts are made from bibliographic data for 107 patent offices: 173,516,400 published documents, each with the fields below apart from the title and abstract. The fuller record, described here, covers the United States and Chinese offices, in 14,412 files of 57 GB. Dates are whole numbers in the form 20180628, with 0 where none is held. Filled is the share of documents at each office that carry the field.

- Chinese granted patents filed since about 2012 carry no applicant or inventor. The names are on the published application, which shares the same application number.
- An inventor's country is held for 83% of United States documents and 6% of Chinese ones; an applicant's for 73% and 6%.
- An abstract is missing from one United States document in five, nearly all of them older patents.
- Not held: the claims, the full description, drawings, citations and legal status.
